Silo Studio X FARLY

This week, we shine the spotlight on the artist and designer behind Silo Studio, Hannah Watts.

Hannah, the founder of Silo Studio, divides her time between the bustling streets of London and the serene Hampshire countryside, where her creative projects come to life. We had the pleasure of visiting her in Hampshire to uncover what she has crafted for the exclusive FARLY edit.

A multi-talented artist, Hannah is not just a ceramist but also a fabric designer and painter. Partnering with Italian artisans helps her bring her visions to life, whether she’s working on ceramic lamps and candlesticks or designing intricate fabrics. Each new collection is a testament to her dedication to perfecting her craft and unique style across these diverse mediums.

Drawing inspiration from her travels, in particular her deep connection to Africa, Hannah’s work is imbued with the vibrancy and richness of the African landscape, culture, and craft. Her treasured collection of African textiles has become an ongoing source of inspiration, influencing her design process. Cape Town, in particular holds a special place in her heart, and its vivid colours, dramatic landscapes, and energetic spirit have profoundly shaped her artistic style. She often captures these experiences on film, using them as a visual reference in her studio, and incorporates the bold colours and geometric patterns into her work. Aside from Africa, Hannah finds inspiration in unexpected places—particularly in nature—often incorporating these elements into her ceramics.

Today, Hannah is releasing an exclusive collection for FARLY, featuring a series of 12 Zodiac-themed plates among other treasures. Each plate represents a Zodiac sign, with a symbolic depiction at its centre. Framed by her signature checkerboard design in various colours, every piece carries a personal and recognisable touch.

When discussing her inspiration for the collection, Hannah explained that there has been significant growth in interest in astrology in recent years, especially among young people, and she wanted to create something that felt personal and relatable to the consumer. The Zodiac symbols were a perfect fit for this, as they are widely recognised and resonate with people due to their connection to astrology and personal identity.

Each sign carries a distinct style, which allowed her to explore the visual differences in her designs. The concept behind the collection was to create a set of plates that not only showcased a playful, lighthearted style but also connected with individuals on a more personal level through the universal appeal of star signs.
