Sharron McLeod X Farly

This week, our spotlight series features Sharron McLeod, a talented glass artist and ceramicist.

I first met Sharron at an open studio event at Turning Earth in Highgate, where her vibrant ceramics and infectious energy for the craft immediately captivated me. I was delighted to revisit her studio earlier this year for filming, where Sharron works alongside her home studio at the foot of her garden.

It was intriguing to hear Sharron explain the various processes involved in her craft. She begins by shaping the clay and forming it on the wheel to create a plate. After allowing it to dry, she trims and hand-paints it. The piece is then fired, glazed, and fired again, resulting in the finished product. Sharron's enthusiasm for the glazing process and its effect on texture and colour is evident, stemming from her training in printmaking and stained glass, both of which complement her ceramic work beautifully.

Sharron's creations are profoundly influenced by nature, evident in her current collection inspired by birds, fruits, and flowers. The changing colours of the seasons, observed from her garden studio, provide daily inspiration for her work.

She has crafted an impressive series of bird-themed pieces, including the 'Single Swallow' plate, ‘Trio of Swallows’ plates, and 'Dancing Hens' plates. These beautiful blue and white bird series evoke a sense of classic porcelain but with a modern playful twist.

Also featured in her collection are floral and fruit-themed plates and platters. The exquisite oval-shaped 'Tulip Platter' boasts a scalloped blue rim and a hand-painted vase brimming with pink and red tulips. The stylish 'Orange and Lemon Plates' are perfect for a Mediterranean-style afternoon in the garden.

Alongside plates and platters, Sharron has hand-crafted robust 'Pink Mugs', their substantial weight making them an ideal gift for any tea or coffee enthusiast.

We hope you enjoy the video and love the collection, as much as we do!
