Venetia Berry X FARLY

We are thrilled to announce our second Spotlight maker, artist and sculptor Venetia Berry.

I've admired Venetia's work for many years; she is renowned for her exceptional skills in painting, ceramics, and printmaking, all celebrating the female form and the essence of womanhood.

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of visiting Venetia in her studio in the heart of Brixton where she has been based for around 6 years. Upon entering, we were captivated by the vibrant array of posters, beautiful books and works in motion, that filled the light and bright space. 

We were fortunate enough to speak with Venetia about her edit, which celebrates colour and creativity. We loved hearing about her two-dimensional painting ‘Moonstone’ and ‘Hypnos’ which are both inspired by mother nature and the female connection to the landscape.

Additionally, within her collection, there is a series of fabulous plates featuring simple lines and shapes that form faces. The designs include ‘Profile in Lavender,’ ‘Jade,’ ‘Blue Dream,’ ‘Profile in Pink,’ ‘Profile in Lilac,’ and ‘Blue Line.’ These multicoloured plates are perfect for displaying on walls in sets or individually, creating a beautiful decorative impact.

What makes Venetia's works so special is how an array of lines, shapes, and colours come together within each piece to form wonderful figures and faces. These figures are often recognisable and create a dreamlike atmosphere, leading to a real sense of surprise and delight. We also adore the trio of terracotta women named "Terracotta Body 1, 2, & 3 "—the rich terracotta has such depth, and the curvaceous, robust forms are so beautiful - definitely one of my favourites from the edit!
