Launching FARLY with Jam Jar Edit
After what feels like a lifetime of trial and error, we're finally launching FARLY!
We are so excited to unveil all the hard work that's been happening behind the scenes. At the heart of the platform are the creator and makers, working with such a wonderful group of people has been an absolute pleasure. Hearing their stories and witnessing their dedication to their craft has been so inspiring and we can't wait to share these stories with you. We were set on launching this week, aligning with London Craft Week. FARLY and Craft Week share a common ethos, both passionate about revealing the narratives behind stunning objects and pieces, so it felt like the perfect timing!
First in our spotlight series, we have the wonderful floral design studio JamJar Edit founded by Melissa Richardson and Amy Fielding. After much back and forth, this April we had the pleasure of visiting Melissa's charming Victorian London house, which perfectly embodies the essence of their brand. The gardens were filled with blooms and every vase was overflowing with freshly cut flowers. It was so special to be able to film in the garden and observe Melissa and Amy source and press flowers for their works.
After our visit to Melissa's home, we drove a short distance to Peacock Yard, where JamJar Flowers and JamJar Edit, or 'Jammers' as they fondly refer to themselves, are based. Here, Amy gave us a demonstration of the next step in the process, which involved mounting dried flowers with acid-free glue and framing them with conservation glass. It was so interesting to learn about the history of the traditional flower pressing and how the method was once used to record plant specimens collected by plant hunters from around the world during the age of botanical exploration. We also had an opportunity to see some of the beautiful completed works for the first time, which was magical.
We hope you enjoy the video and love learning about the studio, as much as we did!
